What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a procedure that removes stains and discoloration from teeth.

Discoloration can be the result of a combination of things: genetics, poor oral hygiene, accidents, medication, the effects of aging, smoking, or certain foods.

Dr. Blass can change all this and give you a “Movie Star” smile!  It is important to note that teeth discolored due to tetracycline or excessive fluoride are not good candidates for the whitening procedure.

Whitening techniques will only work for tetracycline staining if the discoloration is very mild. Veneers are the best solution for more severe tetracycline cases. Once you reach our office, Dr. Blass will let you know what the best solution for you is.

Tooth Whitening Procedure

First, we check the teeth for cavities as the whitening gel can cause serious damage if it leaks into these areas. If cavities are found, they must be repaired before tooth whitening takes place. If there are no cavities, we will begin the whitening process. The process is quick, easy, and comfortable. Under the supervision of Dr. Blass, our whitening treatments are completely safe and will not harm teeth or gums. Our whitening system lasts a long time. This means you will experience very little whitening loss over time if you maintain good dental habits.

Opalescence®

Opalescence Take Home Whitening Gels allow you to whiten your teeth at your convenience—in a safe, effective, and customized way.

Safe Opalescence Take Home Whitening Gels are only available from your dentist, who will supervise your treatment from initial consultation through completion. The sticky, viscous gel won’t migrate to gums, and most formulations include Potassium Fluoride (PF), which helps to improve oral health by strengthening enamel, decreasing sensitivity, and offering increased cavity prevention.

Effective Powerful, prescription-strength Opalescence Take Home Whitening Gels are available with 10%, 10%PF, 15%PF, 20%PF, and 35%PF carbamide peroxide. Opalescence Take Home Whitening Gels can provide results after just one night, though expect to see results in about a week.

Customized Opalescence Take Home Whitening Gels are delivered via customized bleaching tray. Your dentist will create this tray from an alginate impression of your mouth; this customization is part of why Opalescence Take Home Whitening Gels are so effective. You can further customize your Opalescence Take Home Whitening Gel experience by choosing from the five formulations and three flavors (mint, melon and regular).

We are delighted to offer our patients the latest in whitening procedures. Opalescence® is a quick and convenient method of whitening your teeth. Opalescence® is safe for your tooth enamel, dental work, and your gums. It has been clinically shown that Opalescence® can even significantly decrease the bacteria that cause gingivitis.

We have chosen the Opalescence® system for whitening in our office because we believe it is the best method available. Compared to the other in-office whitening systems, Opalescence® is safer, less harsh and has longer lasting results.
